GRID STEP. You can print out the base construction lines and start drawing on tracing paper, or you can draw the grid layout yourself using the following steps.1) Draw a rectangle that will define the conditional proportions and boundaries of the chosen drawing. 2) From the middle of the rectangle, draw one vertical and one horizontal line equally dividing the shape. 3) Draw another horizontal line equally dividing the upper half of the rectangle. Similarly, draw a horizontal line equally dividing the bottom half of the rectangle. 4) Draw a vertical line equally dividing the left half of the rectangle. Similarly, draw a vertical line equally dividing the right half of the rectangle.

STEP 1. Draw an oval for the head. Add a horizontal rectangle at the bottom.

STEP 2. Draw the torso and legs.

STEP 3. Sketch lines for the hands. Draw the feet.

STEP 4. Improve the shape of head, arms and legs. Divide the face with a horizontal line. Add elements to the gun. Erase any excess lines.

STEP 5. Mark out the eyes and hairline. Detail the gun and legs. Remove the excess.

STEP 6. Detail the eyes. Draw the sleeves and add pleats to the trousers. Add elements to the gun.

STEP 7. Get an afro hairdo. Add folds to the body. Draw fingers, eyebrows and mouth on the woman. Work on the gun. Erase excess lines.

STEP 8. Detail the entire drawing. Draw hair and shoelaces.

STEP 9. Check that there are no extra lines in the drawing. Contour Ellen, trying to vary the thickness and darkness of the line.

STEP 10. Colour in the picture and bring it to life. Enjoy your drawing.
